This Privacy Policy describes the types of information gathered by Ethnographic Research, Inc. Inc. (“Ethnographic Research, Inc.”, “we” or “us”) in the course of rendering certain services to its customers and visitors (the “Service(s)”), how we use it, with whom the information may be shared, what choices are available to you regarding collection, use and distribution of information and our efforts to protect the information you provide to us in the course of our rendering of the Service. Near the end of this Policy there is information specifically about participating in our research projects.
By using or visiting our website, you hereby consent to allow us to process information in accordance with this Policy.
Information collected
When you visit our website, we automatically collect and analyze certain information about your use of the site and the device you used to access the site. This information includes your IP address, information about your browser type and language, operating system of your computer, the date and time you are accessing our site, the content of any undeleted cookies that your browser previously accepted from us, and the referring website address. You may also provide us personal information like your name, email address, and employer, by filling out one of the site’s contact forms.
Use of cookies and other technologies
Cookies: When you visit our website, you may be prompted to allow us to assign your computer one or more “cookies.” A cookie is a small text file containing information that we can read later to facilitate your access to our website and personalize your online experience. Communications: We will respect your wishes not to receive or to stop receiving communications. If you provided us with your email address in order to receive such communications (via an online contact form, for instance), you can opt out at any time by contacting us directly. We will not share your information and personal details with third parties outside of the following instances:
If you participate in a research project and we need to share your information with our clients or subcontractors who may be working with us. When we do so, we contractually require our subcontractors to implement adequate security and privacy measures to ensure that your personal information will be appropriately protected and only used for the purposes of performing the services for us.
In response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process (including for national security and law enforcement purposes); to establish or exercise our legal rights; to defend against legal claims; or as otherwise required by law. To comply with applicable laws, protect rights, safety and property, and respond to lawful requests from public authorities (e.g., disclosing data in appropriate situations for national security or law enforcement purposes). In such cases we reserve the right to raise or waive any legal objection or right available to us.
When we believe it is appropriate to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal or suspected illegal activities; to protect and defend the justified rights, property, or safety of Ethnographic Research, Inc., our clients, or others.
In connection with a corporate transaction, such as a divestiture, merger, consolidation, or asset sale, including any pre-transaction diligence.
Internal transfers of your information
We operate the Services in the United States and, depending on your country of residence, the submission of information to our Services may involve the transfer of such information to the United States. Ethnographic Research, Inc. will ensure that such transfers or transfers to a third country or an international organization are subject to appropriate safeguards. We shall comply with the data protection policies and procedures, applicable laws, and the terms of our client contracts governing the collection and use of information.
Access to your information
You may request access to any certain information that we hold about you, ask us to correct certain information which may be inaccurate, and/or ask us to block or delete such information and object to the processing of personal data except where the law requires otherwise. In some cases, where you have participated in a research project for us, we may not be able to modify or delete information that we have already sent to a client.
To request to access, correct, or delete your information, or to raise inquiries concerning your information in our possession, please email us at 4info@ethnographic-research.com. Please include “Request for Privacy Information” in the subject line. Please include enough detail for us to locate your file; at a minimum, your name and email. We may require you to prove your identity with approved identification.
We will retain your information for as long as needed to provide any Services. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Information security
We have implemented reasonable technical and organizational security measures to help protect against unauthorized access, unauthorized alteration, disclosure, or destruction of information. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be entirely secure, and we cannot and do not guarantee or warrant the security of any information that you transmit on or through our site.
We make reasonable efforts to restrict access to information to only those employees, contractors, and agents who need to know that information in order to operate, develop, or improve our products and services, and consistent with the level of sensitivity of such data. We subject our third-party agents to contractual controls to ensure that they appropriately protect and use the information they access or receive from us.

Our website may contain links to other websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of others. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by Ethnographic Research, Inc.
Information specific for our research participants
During our research projects we collect personal data from our participants. Providing insights to our clients based on information provided to us by our participants is fundamental to our work.
Participation in our research is always completely voluntary. The types of data we collect varies from project to project, but frequently it can include your name and contact information, your demographic information including ethnicity and gender, video and still images of you, your attitudes and practices around whatever we’re studying, and, at times, your health and financial information. We always inform our participants about what information we are collecting, when we are collecting it, why we are collecting it, and we always obtain informed consent granting us permission to collect it. We also, at times, contact past participants or people who have opted-in about projects we think they might be a good fit for. You may opt-out of these communications at any time simply by contacting us.
We only collect data when necessary and it is all kept confidential. Only our employees, our subcontractors, and our clients have access to the data and only on an as-needed basis.
You always have the right to access the information you have provided us, and you may request that we modify or delete your information at any time. Again, we will do this whenever possible although there may be instances where we have already passed the information along to a project’s client who may not be able to satisfy your request.
Other agreements
When individuals participate or apply to participate in research projects with us, they always sign an informed consent agreement that details how we will use the information we collect from them. The terms in these agreements can vary from project to project and may at times conflict with the language found in this Policy. Whenever there is such a conflict, the agreement or informed consent signed as part of participating in a research project or applying to participate in a research project will supersede this Policy.
Changes to this Policy
This Policy may change from time to time. If we make any changes to this Policy, we will post any Policy changes on this page. Where we make any material changes to this Policy, we will make a more prominent notice. Your continued use of our site following such posts or notices will signal your acceptance of such changes. Please refer to the “Effective Date” above to see when this Policy was last updated.
